Einstein Visiting Fellow's Lecture: Vittorio Gallese (Parma)
Abstract: Aesthetics, as normally conceived, deals with art and beauty. Mainstream neuroscience in the last two decades has started investigating the neurobiological basis of the appreciation of beauty and art. Aesthetics, however, pervades all forms of social cognition, but the impact that the new digital technologies and related social practices have upon social life is under investigated. This asks for a new empirical understanding and conceptualization of aesthetics to serve a new understanding of our societies, where AI applied to biometric Big Data discloses unprecedented scenarios. Capitalizing upon the results obtained so far in the field of experimental aesthetics, and by privileging embodiment and the performative quality of perception and cognition, in my talk I will sketch a possible future research agenda.
All are welcome!
