Public debate & press conference (in German)
Press conference on the interdisciplinary symposium Mind the Brain! Neuroscience and Society (held in November 2014)
Neuroskepticism is on the rise. After decades of unhampered enthusiasm about the explanatory potential of the "New Sciences of the Brain", contemporary neuroscience is now critizised from different angles. In turn, criticism of neuroscience isitself criticized as being exaggerated and unhelpful in progressing science. In a symposium held in November 2014 at the Berlin School of Mind and Brain of Humboldt-Universitaet zu Berlin, neuroscientists, anthropologists, sociologists, philosophers and journalists have discussed the complex relationship between neuroscience and society from an interdisciplinary perspective.
It is time to share the outcome of our symposium with you. On 28 January, we would like to publicly discuss what measures could be taken to reform neuroscientific research practices in order to increase the outcome of truly relevant data. Some topics that will guide our debate: situaiting neuroscientific practices in societal and political contexts, rethinking the publication policies of (neuro-)scientific data, encouraging replications studies, and identifying novel incentives for better (neuro-)research.
