The Berlin School of Mind and Brain invites applications for a Postdoc position at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, starting on 1 May 2010 and available until 31 October 2011 (extension possible).

Area of specialization: Philosophy of Mind or Philosophy and Neuroscience.
Area of competence: Philosophy of Science, Neuroscience and/or Psychology.
A focus on one of the school’s main research topics − ‘conscious and unconscious perception’, ‘decision-making’, ‘language’, ‘brain plasticity and lifespan ontogeny’, or ‘brain disorders and mental dysfunction’ − is desirable.

The Berlin School of Mind and Brain runs a three-year interdisciplinary doctoral program. Research and training focuses on the interface between the humanities and the neurosciences. Of particular interest are research areas that fall on the borders between the mind sciences (e.g., philosophy, linguistics, behavioral and cognitive science, economics) and the brain sciences (e.g., neurophysiology, computational neuroscience, neurology, psychiatry, neurobiology). Hosted by the Humboldt University, the School’s research program includes scientists also from the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Free University Berlin, the Technical University Berlin, the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience, the Max Planck Institutes for Human Development and History of Science in Berlin, the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig, and the nearby universities of Potsdam, Leipzig and Magdeburg. The School is situated in lively part of central Berlin. The successful candidate is expected to pursue a project at the interface between philosophy and neuroscience. He or she will be a member of the Berlin School of Mind and Brain and of the Institute of Philosophy at Humboldt-Universität. He or she will be expected to teach at Bachelor or Master level (four courses per year, in German and/or English) and participate in the school’s activities (see http://www.mind-and-brain.de).
