Max Planck Society awards Otto Hahn Medal to Daniel Margulies

Mind & Brain alumnus honored at MPG general meeting

Otto Hahn Medal / Otto-Hahn-Medaille for Dr. Daniel Margulies

Daniel Margulies joined the School in December 2007 and defended his thesis on “Resting-State Functional Connectivity fMRI: A new approach for assessing functional neuroanatomy in humans with applications to neuroanatomical, developmental and clinical question” in October 2009 (see Alumni for further information on his research).

Supervisors were Arno Villringer (Charité) and Elke van der Meer (Institute of Psychology). The degree was awarded by the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences II of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

Currently, Daniel Margulies is a postdoctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences, Leipzig. The Otto Hahn Medal was awarded on 8 June at the 2011 annual general meeting of the Max Planck Society.

Each year, the Max Planck Society (Max-Planck-Gesellschaft, MPG) honors up to 30 young scientists and researchers with the Otto Hahn Medal. The award recognizes outstanding academic and scientific achievements and comes with 5,000 Euro as recognition. The Otto Hahn Medal is intended to motivate especially gifted scientists and researchers to pursue a future university or research career. Since 1978, more than 800 scientists and researchers have been awarded the Otto Hahn Medal.
