The Berlin School of Mind and Brain is a graduate school based at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. It has been funded by Germany’s Excellence Initiative since being established in 2006. The school provides a very successful English-language doctoral degree program which brings together the neurosciences, psychology, philosophy and linguistics. The school is currently setting up an English-language Master’s and a postdoctoral program.
In conjunction with the Institute of Psychology at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin we are inviting applications for a
W2 Professorship in Social Cognition
as soon as possible and for a term of five years.
We will consider internationally visible applicants with a strong record in the field of cognitive science with a focus on social cognition along with a special aptitude for academic work and teaching ability. Moreover, candidates should have experience in intra- and interdisciplinary work as well as an excellent command of English.

Terms, conditions, responsibilities
Institutional membership: The successful candidate will be a full professorial member of the Institute of Psychology at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin as well as of the Berlin School of Mind and Brain, where he/she will be based.
Teaching obligations: 9 hours (à 45 minutes) per week during the teaching periods of each of the two semesters of the academic year (i.e., 4–5 courses at Master’s level each semester); in English.
Please note:
- These are the regular teaching obligations for professors at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
- The teaching periods during the semesters take place from mid-April till mid-July (summer semester) and mid-October till mid-February (winter semester).
Supervision of Master’s theses and doctoral candidates, in English.
Commitment: It is expected that the professorship in Social Cognition will participate in the Berlin School of Mind and Brain’s academic activities and self-governance (e.g., in committees).
Salary: The basic salary for W2 professors in Berlin amounts to 4,190.06 euros per month (gross, civil service pay scale). On top of that there will be pension and health insurance payments by the university. In addition, the successful candidate will be able to negotiate further salary- or research-related benefits.
